About Us

Likoni Community Development Programme (LICODEP) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization that draws membership from a network of youth Groups. Currently operating in South coast (Mombasa south and Kwale County). The process of involving the youth in the development process in Likoni started in 1998 when actionaid Kenya initiated a programme to address the plight of the youth who were decried to be on the brink of vulnerability due to myriad socio-economic afflictions. Although 39 youth groups were identified initially, the programme started with a membership of only 8 groups who were making attempts to engage in income generating activities.

Continuous poverty analysis with the groups inspired the youth to work together to address their common problems. By late 1999 a youth umbrella body was formed and named Likoni Youth Counseling and Development Programme as a Community based organisation and later 2004 renamed Likoni Community Development Programme (LICODEP) and registered as a Non-governmental organisation.

It was mandated to initiate action that promote the voice of the youth and women to address issues that affect them and the community at large by promoting education access to children, enhancing good governance through strengthening youth and women participation and representation in decision making process at the local levels in order to articulate their concerns ,enhancing access to affordable credit facilities to the youths for sustainable livelihoods and working collaboratively with other development actors for a just and sustainable human development.
